What is Counseling?

Counseling is a self-discovery process that helps individuals become more aware of themselves and their environment while learning to better manage and cope with their daily life stressors as well as those of others. Chicago area therapist Utilizing a wellness approach, it incorporates the principles of mental health, psychology, and human development into cognitive, emotional, behavioral, and/or systemic interventions that address wellness, personal growth, career development, and pathology to empower clients to independently solve their own problems.

Who Benefits from Counseling?

Anyone and everyone may benefit from counseling!

What Can I Expect?

First and foremost, you can expect to be respected, appreciated, and welcomed. Counseling is a multidimensional process that is built upon the relationship fostered between the counselor and client. It is collaborative in that the counselor and client work together to work through difficulties and set and accomplish goals that enhance one's quality of life. This is not a "one size fits approach."

Coaching is a relationship in which one person--a coach--supports a learner or client in achieving a specific personal or professional goal. This may entail a formal or informal relationship between two people, of whom one has more experience and expertise than the other and offers advice and guidance as the latter learns; but coaching differs from counseling, as there is no formal diagnosis.
